For those not familiar with the term Primary, it is the collection of
children’s classes for kids age 3-12 in the LDS church. This book is
funny because most people who are members of this church have served in
the primary at one point or another over the course of time. The
feelings expressed in most of these cartoons are those that current and
former primary workers alike can relate to. While the comics in this
book greatly exaggerate the situations that they capture, most of the
people who will be interested in this book have been there at some point
or another.

Some of the humor in this book is fairly irreverent, to the point that
some may find it mildly offensive and equally inappropriate. At the same
time, there will be those that feel that the descriptions are too mild.
As with anything in life, Primary inspires a gamut of emotions in
people. There are those that can think of nothing better than to be
around the kids and teach them. There are others who view it as a black
hole where people disappear, never to return. This book is more likely
to appeal to the latter set.
The author has chosen to write to a fairly small target audience. It is
mainly limited to those who’ve held positions in their local primary.
However, this book is a quick read that might very well appeal to others
who enjoy the quirks of Mormon culture. It is geared mainly toward
adults who will understand the grown-up ironies that these cartoons
focus around.
This book is very short. It is a perfect fit for those who are looking
for a quick read to fill small snippets of free time. Overall, even if
the reader thinks that the humor in this book is irreverent, they are
likely giggle anyway, at least a little bit. For what it is, this book
fills its purpose and makes the reader laugh.
